Have there ever been any cases where the church prosectuted people for the occult and macabre?

i have an idea for a project, and i want to know some history about macabre, occult, and what the church frown(s)(ed) upon.

i don't mean pagan or satanic things, just things that christians have done throughout history that the church didn't like, thus prosecuting them for witchcraft and other acts.Have there ever been any cases where the church prosectuted people for the occult and macabre?
The chords used by Jimi Hendrix at the start of Purple Haze would have lead to him being prosecuted by the European church during the Middle Ages as these two specific chords were explicitly banned under religious law as heresy. If you look at 12th to 14th century laws in England and mainland Europe you will find a number of laws of this type. Playing games/sports or using scissors on a Sunday were also explicitly banned. You would not have been prosecuted for witchcraft for this, but remember witchcraft was only one of the many heresies you could be found guilty of and had no greater or lesser punishment than any act which was deemed unchristian.Have there ever been any cases where the church prosectuted people for the occult and macabre?
Also during the black death and mini ice age. They killed witches ';for causing it.';
Go look up the Salem Witch Trials.
