Is there a reason for the high number of child-abuse cases within the Catholic church?

Not out to offend anybody; just curious. Is there a reason for the high number of child-abuse cases within the Catholic church?
Of course there's a reason. Priests in the Catholic church are forbidden all sexual contact from the time they join the church, usually as someone in their early 20's or even late adolescence. This repression of a basic human need causes terrible damage and trauma to a healthy, sexual being. Combine this with the fact that they are put in charge of young, easily victimized kids and you have a recipe for disaster. The really amazing thing is that aren't MORE cases of child abuse in the church. Is there a reason for the high number of child-abuse cases within the Catholic church?
Here are some numbers that you may find dispels the over reporting of Catholic Sins. 12% of 300 Protestant Clergy surveyed admitted to sexual intercourse with a parishioner.38% admitted other inappropriate sexual contact. In a study by the United Methodist Church 41.8% clergy women reported unwanted sexual behavior. 1.7% of the Catholic Clergy has been found guilty of pedophilia verses 10% of the Protestant Ministers who have been found guilty of Pedophilia. This information was gathered from a Jewish source. This only goes to show you how News Reporting can be used to confuse and twist truth by today's modern news reporters as most now instead of seeking truths have political and religious biases and agendas. A good example is of the person that equated all this with Republicans and being as this is not a political question i'll refrain from going into detail of which party defends aberrant behavior.
The number of abuse cases isn't really that much higher among Catholic priests than it is among other religions.

What has attracted the world's contempt is the Church's hadnling of such events. Outright denial, threats of excommunication against victims who speak up, aggressive protection of offenders, hiding accusations, moving offenders from one parish to another where they continue the abuse, and so on.

When the RCC declares itself to be the ';sole moral authority'; on Earth, one expects much better behavior than this.
Yes, because there is a high rate of child abuse cases in society. I heard once that it is estimated that 1 in 20 men have sexually abused a child. It's all of society hun. I would like some serious statistics done on this for once. It could be less of an incident, it just has been publicized because the church is suppose to be a safe place, which it usually is, and because the church tried to hide it.

To the guy above me, if you are a man who is abusing a little boy, you are a child molester not gay. Gay men like MEN.

Actually, the percentage of priests who have engaged in child-abuse is no greater than that of society in general.

Not that this is okay. I am merely suggesting that the number isn't as high as secular media has mislead you to believe.
Brian:

In the interest of justice, you must know that the problem of Pedophilia (one aspect of child abuse) is NOT limited to the Roman Catholic Church, but is a problem in MOST organized religions including many Protestant denominations and in Orthodox and Reform Judaism.

The second aspect of child abuse...actual physical (but non-sexual) abuse is rampant among Jehovah's Witnesses (children have actually been beaten to death by parents for minor infractions of the rules), and the more cultic religions that preach 'spare the rod and spoil the child'. And the incidence of child abuse among Orthodox Jewish families has only recently been given any press coverage.

That said: Religion, especially those sects and denominations that have made sex a dirty word, outside of marriage, have always been a haven for the sexually disfunctional. (One has only to look at people like Ted Haggard, Jimmy Swaggart, or Jim Baker). The celibacy enjoined by the Catholic church has served as a very effective cover for men and women who use it as a cloak to cover their own psychological disfunction. Among young men fearful of their own sexual desires, be they homosexual, or misogynistic, or actually perverted toward young children as evidenced in pedophilia, the Churches have proved (until recently) a safe haven.

Fortunately, that era is past...and now that the dirty little secrets are out in the open we can hope to see more concern, from the churches, for their youngest charges.

It is lower than in the general population AND it is largely male on male.

Is there a reason? Yes, the idiots in the 60s and 70s (mainly not Catholics) who thought it wasn't fair to keep homosexuals from the ministry. There -- and I bet you'll reject that like it was the Ebola Virus.

And you shouldn't just be curious. That is the mark of a soft or cowardly mind. This is important, not 'interesting'. Not to offend anybody.
I find these types of crimes against our children among the worst!

No Catholic supports these Priest or hides it. That is obvious. Watch the link . Pedophiles are not a Catholic problem alone. You have heard of the cases of teachers and the worse; The family members abusing their own children.

The Pope also spoke out while visiting the US.

I fail to see other faiths openly discussing these crimes. Perhaps they are hiding them.

This kind of crime is not contained to men. Women also are as guilty. It is a sick mind and heart.

This is a sad world we live in. We as parents should guard any child we feel may be victimized. Pedophiles look for opportunities, work places where children can be accessed easily. Often they seek out jobs with authority.

Please, don't think for one minute your neighbor or friend could not commit the same act as it is not confined to Christians only.

Peace be with You.
A lot of these abused people have now grown up and as soon as one decides to take his/her abuse to the media or a lawyer it becomes public knowledge and all the others are beginning to come out of the wood work and tell their stories also with huge investigations to follow.
There is no evidence the number is any higher that any other religious communion. Our cases are just more visible because we are more forthcoming about them. How many other communions have turned their records over to a major university for study?
Catholic church is more sexually repressive than other religions - priests can't marry or even masturbate. When sex is forbidden, people start to get sick and perverted.
Hard to tell - Republicans are giving them a run for the money ---%26gt; http://www.armchairsubversive.org/ so I guess the best advice is to keep clear of Republican Catholic associations and organizations....
I heard a number of years ago that the amount of child abuse that was going on in the Catholic church was no higher than any other segment of the population.
it only seems high due to media attention.

Granted, one case is one too many, but there are more child-abuse cases within families than within the Catholic church
What about USA Senitors who do this?

What about the cops who do this?

Ooooh, yeah, govt. = floors %26amp; avoiding responsabilities.

The other denominations and organizations are better at hiding it.
Well, yeah! Vows of celibacy! If priests were allowed to marry, there wouldn't be this problem. Well, not as often.
the devil
Pretty simple.

Parents care sometimes too much.

Unable to find trust in their children.

Unable to give their child to earn that trust.

One mistake is the end of the world.

But they still care for their children, but they Don't Believe their children will find success without them.

They believe more in God than their own children.
possibly due to them prohibiting priests from marrying...

dont let it worry you cz God is the judge...not us!!
