When someone wants to get married, they ask for the birth certificate...is a report of birth abroad the sole substitute for a birth certificate in this case too or is there any other documentation needed (like the foreign birth certificate)? Is a consular report of birth abroad treated like a birth certificate in all cases?
This is just my personal opinion. A consular report of birth abroad is a document created based on the birth certificate of the person. It is for the embassy's internal use and not supposed to replace the birth certificate itself. I still would say that the original birth certificate be used. But that is just me.Is a consular report of birth abroad treated like a birth certificate in all cases?
A consular report of birth abroad is a basic United States citizenship document. It is not really a birth certificate. It depends on the agency involved as to whether or not they will accept it in lieu of a birth certificate.
The Consular Report of Birth Abroad serves as a legal copy and translation of a foreign birth certificate.
In other words...yes.
