In what cases can you get fired for a job and still collect unemployment?

I hate my job and I really want to quit but my friend said to get fired and then I can collect unemployment if I can't find a job right away. is this true? i thought you had to be laid off or something to collect.In what cases can you get fired for a job and still collect unemployment?
Generally, you cannot collect benefits unless you were fired illegally for certain things discrimination based on religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, age, etc.





Unemployment benefits are for those who have lost their job due to no fault of their own such as being laid off or the business closing down.





It's not meant for people who hate their jobs and quit or who screw up and get fired.





When you apply, the Unemployment department check with the employer to see why you were fired. The employer provides that information. The employer also has the right to apply to deny you compensation for many reasons. All the employer has to do is tell them he will hire you back...and you're out of luck.

Taking issue with davidmi7. I didn't say that. I said you can't collect UNLESS you were fired illegally. Being LAID OFF is why unemployment is THERE.

Nothing you can bring on yourself. Unemployment is for people that lose their jobs, not those that creatively quit.





If you hate your job you can do one of two things:


1. Update your resume and apply for a different job.


2. Join the job haters support group. it meets at your local bar Friday afternoon.
If you are fired, yes you can collect benefits. You must lose your job and be ready, willing and able to work to receive benefits.
you can get unemployment if youre fired.....Try showing up late, or calling in sick alot.... I wouldnt suggest telling the boss to go to hell....If its obvious you were TRYING to get fired, it wont look good....
